ARCHIVE STUDIO
Archive Studio is a design studio with a focus on high quality durable products that are used on a daily base.
“Start small, grow slowly. That’s our philosophy. We slowly expand our archive of ceramics and make sure that each new item perfectly fits in the existing range.
Our ceramics are produced in small batches. It may occur that your favourite items are out of stock for an extended period of time. If you would like to know when we restock our online store please subscribe to our newsletter. We rarely send emails, only if we have a new batch available or when a pre-sale starts.
THE CERAMICS
The first collection of stoneware ceramics is unique for its double layer of clay that enables different finishes on the inside and outside of the product. The outer layer has a soft-sanded finish, preserving the original texture of the clay. The inside has a white layer of glaze that perfectly protects the product.
As all products are handmade and due to temperature differences in the oven, all products are slightly different in size and color, making each piece unique.
The products are fired at a high temperature of 1.250 °C making the clay compact and the product durable and strong. As a result, all products are perfectly dishwasher safe.
All the ceramic products of Archive Studio are food safe. The products have been tested for the release of lead and cadmium and meet the European standard.
See the ceramic care instructions at the product description to read more about the maintenance of the products.
DURABILITY
Archive Studio's ceramic products come from North Vietnam. The products are shipped by container from Haiphong too Rotterdam. "It is important for us to continue to work with our workshop in Vietnam. Firstly, both they and we benefit from continuity. Vietnam is a region where refined tableware has been produced for centuries.
Because our products are made of stoneware and are extra strong thanks to the high temperature at which the products are baked, they last much longer than products made off, for example, earthenware.
But we want to do more to reduce the burden on the environment. The most important measure we have taken is to omit the polystyrene foam that used to protect our products. The thick polystyrene foam has been replaced by a thin layer of cardboard, which means that we can transport 20% more products in the same container. In the Netherlands, we repack the products ourselves, reusing only existing materials.
THE MAKERS
After working in Sweden and Spain for over 6 years, for multinational organisations, Lynn and Wouter decide that it is time to build their own brand and apply a different approach.
“We wanted to design our own products taking sustainability, quality and craftsmanship as our main drivers.
The great thing about ceramics is that these drivers can be perfectly combined. Our products are meant to last a lifetime and a dish can be enjoyed more intensely if consumed from a beautiful plate.”
